The Raven 2013

The Chenango Forks Advanced Drawing class has completed the illustrations and voice overs for this years version of The Raven - a visual interpretation of Poe's classic poem.

Students:  Large resolution format is available for you.  See Rosko if you would like a copy.

DONATIONS

The Art Department is always short of odds and ends, and is always pleased to accept donations, and we are especially in need of the following items...

paper towel and toilet paper rolls, rags and towels, sponges (especially sponges) and baby food jars

We are also continuing to collect electronics for our Ecophone Fundraiser (which netted us 46.00 last year).  Ecophone collects, recycles and pays the Art Club for the items listed below (no matter how damaged).  Any donations are much appreciated, and can be dropped off in the HS main office (care of Rosko) or sent in with your children...

cell phones, ,  MP3 players,  used printer ink cartridges, old  laptops,  digital cameras

With the elimination of the full time MS art position, the Visual Arts department course offerings and schedule will appear somewhat different in the future.

To insure that as many advanced level art courses are maintained as possible, and to insure that students who are planning to attend art college can have access to all the courses they will need to build a competitive portfolio, we will be creating a 2 year rotating schedule as follows...

The 2010 -2011 course schedule below shows rotating courses.

This will also constitute the 2012 - 2013 schedule. 

These are the courses that will be offered next year (2010 - 2011) although what period each course will be offered has yet to be determined.

2011 - 2012 schedule will be the same as above except the courses in red italics will be rotated in on an every other year basis.

This means that the schedule below will constitute the 2011 - 2012 AND the 2013 - 2014 schedule.

2010 -2011 students please be aware of the following…

With only one art teacher at the HS level the following schedule has been put into place to allow students the ability to acquire their 5 unit sequence in art, as well as allow students interested in art college to leave CF with a sound art foundation.

If you have signed up for an art course that has been eliminated, your first priority is to be allowed to alter your schedule to allow for the ability to take one of the courses listed above and every effort will be made to alter your schedule to allow for this change.   If you have questions regarding this, please see me.

Please note new changes in Seminar courses - as of September 2010, students will be allowed to take Seminar courses in art courses that have been removed from the rotation (Architecture, Fashion Design etc) as long as the student meets the new Seminar requirements. 

All new course descriptions, schedulinginformation, new pre-requisites and Seminar requirements have been posted to the Visual Arts Department website.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Chenango Forks High School Art Department offers one of the strongest and most varied art programs in the area.

We continue to be very popular among CF students, servicing well over 90% of the student body last year. We offer a total of 17 Regents level half year courses (as either full courses or independent study courses), each specializing in a different form of art and each offering ½ unit of credit towards graduation. In addition, we now offer a Drawing course for college credit.

For students who are interested we also offer 3 and 5 unit Regents art sequences. Although Art Department standards are set high, they are never out of reach for serious students.

Many students select art courses simply because they enjoy them and the relaxed, productive atmosphere. Others are interested in the art background needed for entrance into an art college. Still other students are looking for the creative thinking skills and problem solving strategies that will help them in their other course work. No matter what the reason, all students enjoy the opportunity for self-expression and self-examination afforded by an art class.

Whatever the case, and wherever your child attends school, we encourage you to consider for him or her, a high school program in the Arts.

We are sure you'll be pleased with the results.

Free images for use in artwork and as reference materials - especially good for the Computer Art class and Drawing and Painting classes.  There are minimal (but some) restrictions on the use of these images, but they are free (yes - free).

We now the ability to use QR codes here at CF!

QR codes are popping up all over the place - they manage to pack in more information than a standard bar code (and are more attractive to look at).  The information encoded can be text,  web address  or other data. 

If you have a smart device with a camera, you can download the QR code reading software (see link below) and then when you take a photo of the QR code at the left, it will set itself as a bookmark on your device.

You can have the Chenango Forks Art Department in your pocket at all times!
