Carol Denz, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, came to Chenango Forks in 1985 as a third grade teacher at the Charlotte Kenyon building in Chenango Forks. Prior to coming to the Chenango Forks district she taught first grade at Strawtown School in the Clarkstown School District and third grade at the Oxford Primary School.

Mrs. Denz received a Bachelor of Science from St. Bonaventure University, Masters of Science from SUNY New Paltz and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in School Administration from SUNY Cortland.

In 1988 Mrs. Denz became the Harshaw Primary School enrichment teacher. She attended a summer institute on gifted and talented education at the University of Connecticut and introduced an enrichment program model developed by Dr. Renzulli of the University of Connecticut. This model provided enrichment opportunities to all students through school-wide events and specialized mini-course opportunities in support of the classroom teachers' efforts to meet individual needs of students. As enrichment teacher, Mrs. Denz coordinated arts-in-education programs for the students. Her efforts were recognized by the Southern Tier Institute for the Arts and she was awarded the Outstanding Educator Award in 1998.

In 1991 Mrs. Denz initiated the Harshaw Parent Volunteer Program, a program which has continued with 1000+ hours logged by parent volunteers each year. While chairperson of Harshaw Site Council, Harshaw Morning Program was instituted and in her position as enrichment teacher she was coordinator of the program.

Mrs. Denz began her administrative work at Chenango Forks as administrator of the summer enrichment program from 1992-2000. In July 2000, she became principal of the Harshaw Primary School. During her tenure as primary principal, she lead the staff to full implementation of the Literacy Collaborative and full inclusion of special needs students. Chenango Forks literacy efforts of classroom teachers and academic intervention and special education staff are recognized in the region for innovation and high quality. The staff has hosted teams from numerous schools interested in observing our program.

In February 2005 Mrs. Denz assumed the role of Assistant Superintendent while assisting Ms. Kathleen Keir with her transition to the primary principal position.

As a district resident since 1983 and a parent of two Chenango Forks graduates, Mrs. Denz has experienced firsthand the high quality of the district's staff and programs. Mrs. Denz "looks forward to each day taking on the challenge of providing the best learning environment for all CF students." As Assistant Superintendent she will nurture the professional learning community of the district by working to establish best practices in school-parent partnerships, curriculum development, school leadership, professional development programs and assessment practices.
