Recently, literature study groups read various biographies and compiled time lines and Wordles about their characters' lives. Look at these to see what we've learned about these famous people. What do you know about these people? Hopefully, you'll learn something new. See box below for samples. You can zoom in on one by clicking the browse button, then selecting the document that you would like to see. |

We listened to an recorded story, "A Trip They Never Intended to Take" in class. This is a Word Smart Junior, Princeton Review story which strives to help us add new words to our vocabulary. The rewards of listening to this? "Your hosts Fred and Ginger will introduce you to extrordinary characters, and you're sure to concur that a talking apple, a singing lizard, and a gifted cook can be a real boon to your vocabulary. Not only will you earn kudos (and good grades) as you learn new words without straining you brain, but you'll also sound more eloquent, excel at reading and writing, and become a read prodigy at home and in the classroom!" You can click the browse button and select one document and zoom it. |

Click on a link below to remind yourself about five common poem forms-couplets, cinquains, quatrains, limericks and haiku. Read each poem information paper carefully until you understand the details of each (read each 2-3 times). Choose 2 that you would like to try. Write a poem on any topic, your choice, for each form. Keep the information papers open so that can refer back to them as you are writing. Open a word document to type your two poems. Please write your name and date at the top of the page and the types of poems that you will write. For each poem give it a title (the subject of your poem, not the form of the poem) and carefully write the poem following the directions for that poem form. When you are done writing your poems, please save them in your Reading Class folder.
If you do not have a Reading Class folder, please create one on your desktop. Directions for how to do that: Right click anywhere on desktop -->Click New --> Choose Folder --> Right click on new folder that appears, and name it Reading Class. |
