Middle School Health Day teaches wellness of body and mind
The second-annual Middle School Health Day helped CF Middle School students learn how to live healthy and happy lives with a focus on mind-body wellness.
The day began with keynote speaker John Perricone who spoke about developing inner strength. Perricone had many nuggets of wisdom for the students including, the difference between good and bad peer pressure, how life is full of ups and downs, and that if you truly love your friends you don’t put them in harm’s way for your own entertainment.
Students then went to several stations that focused on mind-body wellness. They learned how to make healthy yogurt snacks and created inspirational messages on handprints for the CFMS tree. K-9 officer Bambi showed students his skills in an informative session with Deputy Mike Kelly. In the gymnasiums, students learned about the importance of exercise by learning how to line dance and burnt off some steam with a tic-tac-toe relay.
Having a healthy mind includes knowing how to make good decisions. ADEPT was on hand to teach students about the affects drugs and alcohol addiction and the Broome County Health Department Traffic and Safety Coordinators Christine Muss and Christopher Marion showed students the repercussions of drinking or using drugs and driving.
Ann Szymaniak returned for yoga sessions and students also learned about the health benefits of essential oils. Our middle school music department staff taught the students a fun musical game involving rhythm.
Many thanks to all event sponsors and presenters for making this year’s Health Day a success!
