Students and staff kicked off CFE’s annual PARP (Pick a Reading Partner) event with a fun fanfare of music, games and trolls.
You may be asking yourself “What do trolls have to do with reading?” This year’s PARP theme is “Trolling through books,” based on the popular “Trolls” animated movie. Teachers and students dressed as characters from the film, signature brightly-colored hair and all.
PARP encourages students to read whether it’s with a parent, friend, sibling or even a pet. Students are asked to set reading goals for themselves and keep track on their PARP reading log. They also received a PARP calendar that listed reading ideas for each day, a troll pencil topper, commemorative pencil and a book, courtesy of the CF PTA.
Older students paired up with their younger schoolmates for “buddy reading,” an activity that helps both older and younger students with their reading skills.
Students also received a visit from local children’s book author, Dan Miller.
A celebration will be held to congratulate students for keeping their reading goals. Students who turn in their reading logs will receive a coupon for a personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut and will be entered in drawings for gift certificates from Hoopla!, Nirchi’s, Applebees, Taylor Rental and Skate Estate, and other donated prizes.
Special thanks to the CF PTA for funding the program.
