It is the parent/guardian's responsibility to notify the office by 8:30 a.m. on the morning of each absence by contacting the Attendance Clerk, Mrs. Rosko, at: 648-7580, option 2
or by email: [email protected]
In the event that you do not contact the attendance office, upon returning to school after an absence or tardiness, children will need a signed note from the parent/guardian stating the reason for the absence/tardiness. When writing the reason, it is helpful to state the specific illness, such as "sore throat" or "upset stomach". When a parent wishes to have a child excused from class for a health reason, (doctor or dentist appointment) or for any other reason, a written request signed by the parent must be presented prior to the child leaving the building.
The Board of Education recognizes the following reasons for student absences as valid:
- Personal illness
- Illness or death in the family
- Religious observance
- Required court appearances
- Attendance at health clinics or other medical visits
- Approved college visits
- Military obligations
- Absences approved in advance by the principal
- Other reasons that my be approved by the Commissioner of Educatio
Any other absence is considered unexcused. This would include excuses signed by the parent/guardian for reasons such as: shopping, vacations, oversleeping, skipping class, hunting, babysitting, haircuts, scouting events and sporting events not sanctioned by the NYSPHSAA.
