Community Schools work to support children, families, schools and communities by assessing needs and connecting resources in a comprehensive approach to school improvement. In the Community Schools approach, the school acts as the 'hub' of the community.

The Community School program at Chenango Forks is a partnership between the school district and Binghamton University. The Binghamton University Community Schools (BUCS) is the nation's first county-wide, university-assisted community schools model.
The Community School coordinator helps to assess the specific needs of the school, and connects with local agencies to bring in resources that include health and social services, enrichment, recreation and arts. Community School Initiatives include efforts to boost attendance rates, increase family engagement and improve student success.
