Teams from CFMS and CFHS recently participated in the 10th annual Southern Tier Robotics Competition at SUNY Broome. Approximately 120 students from several area districts competed in the event. The students designed, built and programmed their robots to complete specific challenges, scoring points from judges based on how well the challenges were performed. Challenges included autonomous line-following, maze programming and a forklift challenge. It was a great opportunity for students to apply their STEM and problem-solving skills. MS teacher Mr. Ramsden and HS teacher Mr. Niemiec led the CF student teams. The MS teams earned 4th place in the Swept Away and Forklift challenges, while finishing 8 of 15 in overall school standings. Click headline for photos.

Mr. Ramsden's Tech & Engineering Club was part of a team that placed 2nd in a robotics competition recently at Onondaga High School, qualifying them for the VEX IQ challenge competition March 9 at the Museum of Science & Technology in Syracuse. During competition, teams earn points for their robots performing tasks such as moving plastic hubs to scoring zones, doing a pull-up on a bar, and knocking hubs off a tower. Competition includes driver-controlled and autonomous navigation. Students are tweaking their design in preparation for the VEX challenge -- good luck! Click headline for photos.

Seven CFMS students attended the annual Engineering Day at Lockheed Martin, where they visited eight different stops at the Owego facility to see new developments and opportunities in the engineering field. The students participated in three hands-on engineering tasks: learning to code robot commands, building circuits to perform various tasks and building a device to catch a falling egg. Students attending with Mrs. Hantsch were: Daisy Dimatos, Alaina Gumble, Shaylee Meier, Sara Nickerson, Quinn Sirgany, Grady Stark and Katie White.
