Grace Cadden signs National Letter of Intent

Senior Grace Cadden signed her NLI with the University of Massachusetts on our softball field on Nov. 12, 2020.

Grace was joined by family, friends and loved ones as she committed to play Division 1 Softball at U Mass in the fall.

Athletic Director David Hogan and Softball Coach Anne Marie Ammerman spoke of Grace's dedication and fierce work ethic.

“Grace is one of the hardest working, most self-driven athletes I’ve ever coached,” Ammerman said. “Since meeting Grace when she was in sixth grade, I’ve always known that her dream was to play Division 1 softball. This type of achievement does not happen overnight. It takes hard work, dedication and having a love for the game. Grace has definitely shown all of these characteristics through hitting lessons, team practices, fitness workouts, individual workouts and many more countless hours dedicated to honing her craft that extend well beyond the physical aspect of the game.”

Grace has played on the varsity volleyball team since she was in tenth grade, is a member of the National Honor Society, a New York State Scholar Athlete, the Senior Vice President and has a cumulative weighted GPA of over 100. Grace has been on the highest honor roll every semester of high school; the district's faculty selected Grace as the honor roll student of the year in 2018 and 2019.

She's been a member of the Varsity softball team since she was in eighth grade, helped lead the team to a 2018 district championship, is a Southern Tier Athletic Conference Allstar and a Class B Third Team All State Honoree. She's also played club softball for the Conklin Raiders for the last eight years and has been a member of their 18U Gold Team for five years.

“Grace has led her teams through her work ethic and high level of play during both practice and games,” Ammerman said. “She leads by example both on and off the field. She uses her practice time wisely and puts 100% effort into each and every drill. There is no drill that is too rudimentary for Grace. She takes every opportunity to improve upon her skills as a softball player. Her dedication and attention to detail allow her to come in clutch when it counts.”

Prior to signing, Grace expressed gratitude to those who tuned in both virtually and in-person.

“I am very grateful to be where I am at today, and I could not possibly be here alone,” she said.

After the paperwork was complete, Grace greeted loved ones and conducted interviews with local TV stations.

“Grace, you make coaching fun. I hope we’re able to have one final season together, so you have the opportunity to put all your hard work to use,” Ammerman said. “This is your time, now go out there and take it.”
