Nathan Gabriel signs National Letter of Intent

Senior Nathan Gabriel signed his NLI at Chenango Forks’ high school stadium on Nov. 16, 2020. He plans to play Division I Lacrosse at Robert Morris University in the fall.

Nate has played three years of varsity soccer, two years of varsity wrestling and varsity basketball. He has a 93 GPA and has been on either the Honor Roll or High Honor Roll every semester of his high school career.

Coach Dave Pavlick and the district’s Athletic Director Dave Hogan spoke of Nate’s achievements on and off the field.

Nate has played varsity lacrosse since his freshman year, when he was recruited by the varsity team at the end of the season to join them in playoffs and states. For two years in a row, Nate participated in the Under Armor Upstate All-American Games.

“He’s the only player, at this point, who made the team two years in a row, which is a pretty impressive feat, to be honest,” Pavlick said. “It’s a great recognition for him and the hard work he put in.”

Nate has also participated in about a half dozen lacrosse travel teams. The high school’s varsity lacrosse team missed its 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that last season he would have absolutely not only been in the All American running, but also in the All Division running again as well,” Pavlick said.

Pavlick congratulated Nate’s parents, who have been active volunteers for the district’s lacrosse program. Of all the students who play lacrosse across the country, Pavlick said, only about 3% of players get the chance to play it at the Division I level.

“There was one thing we always loved about Nate, it was he always came up and he always said ‘thanks coach,’” Pavlick said. “It just goes to show you what a great kid he is.”

Prior to the signing, Nate said a few words to the crowd. He expressed gratitude to his parents and thanked the youth coaches for their support from the beginning.

“It all started at the youth level,” he said. “…Without all the youth coaches I wouldn’t be where I am right now.”
