Second Graders in Mrs. Masters’ class recently assisted in the incubation process of chicken eggs. The process allowed for students to help rotate eggs three times each day for the first 18 days of incubation. Students also helped Mrs. Masters ensure that the temperature and humidity settings were ideal within the incubator. As a result, 13 healthy chicks hatched.
Students were able to watch the chicks interact with one another, eat, drink and sleep. They also kept a journal titled “All About Chicks,” wherein they learned about the important parts inside of an egg, the chicken life cycle and fun facts about the animal. A special shout out to Ms. Aldrich, whose grandmother’s farm donated the eggs for all participating classrooms!
