kids can build

Students from Chenango Forks Middle School recently took home the 'Most Creative' award from the Kids CAN Build event in Binghamton.

The friendly competition between public schools was created by the Broome County Council of Churches CHOW to help alleviate hunger and help those in need of food items.

Inspired by the timeless Eric Carle book 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar', students worked around the clock to design and build this year's creation.

The Not So Very Hungry Caterpillar structure contains 2356 food items weighing in at 2213 pounds.  The Caterpillar is made from canned goods including peas, green beans, tomato paste, and tomatoes. The brick of cheese is made from canned corn with beans, carrots, and potatoes making up the floor.

These ingredients also happen to build a delicious Winter Vegetable Stew that would satisfy any growing Caterpillar.
