College-level animation class works in pixilation

Keith Rosko’s college-level animation class is learning the basics of stop motion animation. To do that, they’re using a technique called “pixilation.” This is stop-motion that uses people instead of puppets or something else. We’re all used to seeing this technique on Sesame Street.

The class decided to learn as a group by practicing their flying skills with a little quidditch practice! They shot video depicting quidditch practice at 10 frames per second - 10 jumps for every one second of footage. You have no idea how much work goes into such a short animated video! We’ve compiled a video that includes the quidditch practice video, as well as some individual projects from the students. Enjoy!
