The Chenango Forks Central School District Board of Education today announced a finalist in its six-month search for a new school superintendent.

The board unanimously agreed to enter contract negotiations with Thomas Burkhardt.

High school principal at Maine-Endwell Central School District since 2012, Burkhardt’s career in education spans 22 years in a variety of capacities, beginning as an elementary education teacher and then middle school language arts teacher before joining M-E’s administrative team.

Burkhardt has a master’s degree in K-12 literacy, a bachelor’s in elementary education and certifications in educational administration.

“The board strongly believes Mr. Burkhardt possesses the proven leadership skills and passion for education that will be critical to guiding our district through the years ahead,” said CF board President Amy O’Brien. “We believe he has the right combination of experience, leadership skills and personal integrity needed to move our district forward and ensure the success of our students.”

Pending successful contract negotiations, Burkhardt will be formally appointed his new role at the board’s next meeting.

The search process was facilitated by consultant Allen D. Buyck, district superintendent of Broome-Tioga BOCES, working closely with board members as well as representatives with several stakeholder groups.
