Pipher Reid with family at signing event table to sign for cross country

Senior Pipher Reid braved the cold to sign her National Letter of Intent to run Cross Country at Syracuse University on Monday, Nov. 15.
Dozens of Pipher’s peers, family members, Chenango Forks faculty and staff, and local media outlets gathered in the high school stadium to celebrate Pipher’s accomplishments. As she’s the most decorated Cross Country runner at in Chenango Forks History, those accomplishments are many.

“Just an absolutely extraordinary career,” Track Coach Jason Motell said Monday. “She does whatever she has to do all the time. She’s literally the greatest distance runner we’ve had in Chenango Forks history. It’s why she’s going to Syracuse University.”

In Cross Country, Pipher is the two-time divisional champion, two-time sectional champion and Broome County COVID Champion. She finished in 11th place at the State Meet two years ago and came in second at the meet this year.

In track, Piper is a seven-time class champion and two-time state meet qualifier in three different events. Last year, she was the small school-champion in the 800-meter run, and the overall sectional champion in the 1,500-meter run. In 2019, she was the small-school champion in the 3,000-meter run.

Piper holds the school record in the 800-meter run, 1500-meter run, Steeple Chase and in the 5K.

“The fact is that all of those accomplishments pale in comparison to herself as an individual and what a great person,” Motell said. “And we’re going to miss her next year in Cross Country, but we’ve still got track season to look forward to.”

Pipher plans to study Heath Humanities with the goal of becoming a Pediatric PA.
