Last week, our first-grade students visited the Chenango Schoolhouse Museum. Built in 1846, this one-room schoolhouse, still mostly original, gave our young learners a glimpse of what it was like to attend school over 175 years ago.
The CFE Robotics Club just completed its first session with fourth and fifth grade members. Over the last eight weeks, they explored Sphero robots, Edison, and Ozobots. Club members worked collaboratively to code these robots to perform various tasks mirroring engineering design. During the final club meeting, guest engineers from CAE, Kim Michael and John Cemay, came to speak to the students about hardware, software, and aerospace engineering. They captured their audience by sharing personal experiences and answering numerous questions from club members. The club looks forward to bringing similar experiences to additional students this school year!
On Thursday, November 21, Mrs. Masters, Mrs. McBreen, and nineteen fourth and fifth grade students traveled to Broome-Tioga BOCES to participate in Engineering Day. The students worked in small teams to plan, design, test, and redesign a functional Rube Goldberg machine using everyday items such as marbles, dominoes, cardboard, tubes, clay, and more! While designing and building the machine, each team shared the same end goal which was to ring a bell. It was a day full of brainstorming, collaboration, and celebration!
CFE Student Council had its first meeting on Thursday, November 21st! Students were so motived to get started, they wanted to help out with the holiday baskets!

Donation boxes can be found at either entrance of the elementary building (near the main office and/or Hearts & Hands) or they can be sent in with your child (boxes are in the classrooms).

Mr. McMullen talked to students about bullying and bothering as well as explained the difference between the two. Mr. McMullen reinforced that bullying is a repetitive, unkind behavior that can stop, and reminded students to be sure to let an adult know if they see this type of unkind behavior so they can address it. Congratulations to our students who are "Leading The Way".

Chenango Forks Elementary students had a special visit from Hygienist Erin, from Guthrie Binghamton Dental Care. Erin visited our school to teach students all about brushing, flossing, and keeping their teeth healthy. Thank you for helping our students learn the importance of taking care of their teeth!

Thank you to Rob Fish for coming today and sharing about his career at the Sheriff's Department, as well as his time serving in the Marines. Yesterday, students in grades 3-5 were visited by guests from Operation Lifesaver. Students were taught about the importance of safety around train tracks. They learned that trains cannot steer to avoid people or vehicles, and that it takes the length of 18 football fields for a train to stop! Thank you, Operation Lifesaver for sharing this important information with our students.
Students in grades Pre-K-2 were visited by Deputy Ed Hlebica from The Broome County Sheriff's Department yesterday at their Rise and Shine Assembly. This was our first Community Career Connection presentation, where students had the opportunity to ask Deputy Ed Hlebica questions about his job and what it takes to have a career in law.

This week Mrs. Marbles Pre-K class learned all about the life cycle of a pumpkin. Students got their hands messy with a fun sensory center activity exploring the inside of a pumpkin and then doubled down on the messy play by incorporating shaving cream activities!

Last week our fourth-grade students at CFE had a sweet time learning about New York State! In a special activity, students decorated New York shaped cookies and used sweet treats to represent geographical landmarks. This included candy corn and chocolate chips for mountains, blue icing for lakes and rivers, and colorful candies to mark cities.
And a huge thank you to our wonderful cafeteria staff for baking our New York State shaped cookies!

PRE-K MOVIE DAY: Mrs. Marble's Pre-K friends celebrated filling their "classroom leadership jar" this week for the first time with a movie day! They watched "Cars 2", had popcorn, drinks and fruit snacks. We look forward to many more celebrations with our littlest CFE leaders!
