AG LITERACY MONTH: Second grade students had a “sweet” opportunity to participate in AG Literacy month! First, students listened to the read aloud story, I Love Strawberries, by Shannon Anderson. This book is about a girl who is trying to convince her parents to allow her to have a strawberry patch. She shows her parents that she is responsible and able to care for the strawberries despite how much work it is. Between the illustrations and writing, students were able to make connections to their recent scientific learning about living things! Then, they enjoyed a healthy and delicious treat of cut up strawberries with a mini rice cake. Lots of fun was had during this experience!

LEAP DAY: Once every four years, our 365-day rotation around the sun becomes 366. This year is a leap year, meaning we add one day to the end of February. Since leap year happens every four years, our last leap days were in 2020 and 2016, and the next leap year will happen in 2028!

NY THURSDAY: Check out today's menu for NY Thursday!

BLACK HISTORY MONTH: Students in Mrs. Dvorsky's class learned about poet, Amanda Gorman during speech/language sessions for Black History Month. Students made personal connections to her, as they learned that she had difficulty with articulation of /r/ sounds throughout her life, one of the most common goals her students have! They read biographic information on her, watched videos of her performing her poem “The Hill We Climb” at the 2021 Presidential Inauguration, and read her picture book “Change Sings”. Students made their own murals for change after reading the book. I attached some pictures that I captured during some sessions!
