Asbestos Notification

Chenango Forks School District has completed the inspection of all schools and buildings in accordance with the laws regarding asbestos as a potential health hazard for students, employees and visitors. Also, a management plan has been developed in compliance with the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act, which includes training of maintenance staff for safe handling, periodic re- inspection, surveillance and limited abatement by trained personnel. The Chenango Forks Central School District is committed to protecting the health of our students and staff.

The district has taken steps to comply with a bill recently passed by the New York State Legislature, requiring all school districts to test drinking or cooking water outlets for lead contamination.

Schools are required to:
- All PK-12 buildings by 10/31/2020.
- Test all outlets currently or potentially used for drinking or cooking with a first draw sample.
- Repeat tests every five years.
- List testing results and remediation steps on the district’s website.
- Submit reports by 6/30/2021 to the NYS Education Department, the local health department and the NYS Department of Health, verifying completion of sampling or noting waivers granted for prior testing and remediation.
- Submit testing results to the NYS Education Department, the local health department and the NYS Department of Health within 10 business days of the receipt of results.
